Bet Now: How big is that baby?

We're now at Baby Day +1 -- a day beyond the official due date for our new little girl*. To this Liza says "good for me."

"A longer pregnancy is every woman's dream," continued Liza. "Every mom knows the joy of the last few weeks before giving birth - I'm just trying to cherish every moment. Sure, I have friends and acquaintances who got pregnant after me and are already snuggling with their beautiful children, but to hell with that, 9 months of pregnancy plus a few more days or even weeks, rocks my fucking world. It just brings me to tears, of joy of course, knowing that I'll be awake to enjoy every precious minute while I wait."

So please, comment below, with a DATE, TIME, and WEIGHT, for your guess in this international baby pool. Just sign your first name and last initial, or first initial, last name, so we know who has won the exclusive, world-wide bragging rights. Keep in mind, we're a day over term and this poor child will be dragging around her huge skull for her first few years of life (thanks papa!).

Much love from Germany,

Rob & Liza

*or a surprise boy who will be outfitted nearly exclusively in pink for his first 4 weeks

  3. I'm thinking it'll be Saturday, June 7th.

You know how it is, you coast into a weekend, all baby free, thinking "I'm going to have a pretty nice weekend, here." Saturday rolls around and, all of a sudden, bam, baby comes.

If it happened on Friday or Monday, you'd be setup with a day off of work. Now you're stuck having your baby on your own time.

Now it's like a baby-filled weekend. Baby this, baby that, baby eats, baby scats....

  4. 6/29/08, 22:47 local time, 13 lbs, 9 oz.

Germany is served a small measure of divine retribution when striker Ebi Smolarek scores with a replica of Maradona's "Hand of God" goal in the 94th minute of the Euro 2008 championship match to lift Poland to a 3-2 victory. The collective shriek resounding through Germany causes baby to flee the womb in terror, and she is delivered on a bench in the Friedenplatz amidst general pandemonium as scores of unlucky Polish nationals run for their lives under a hail of empty stein glasses and racial epithets.

  6. You know, I remember those blissful last ten days of pregnancy after my due date passed. I choose Friday the 13th, early early a.m., 8 lbs even.

  7. I am so excited for you guys. I'm guessing 6am on Friday, June 13th.

  8. This kid knows that, even with Germany's state of the art, government sponsored healthcare, people are at their peak job performance mid week, not Monday after a weekend of beer drinking and pretzels, or Friday when the docs are anxiously anticipating two days of football (soccer) and beer, so I predict it will choose to arrive on Wednesday, June 11th, at a civilized time, like 8:15 am. It will weigh in at a robust 4.5 kilos (this is a European event afterall). Looking forward to hearing the good news!!!

  9. Wow, I've been way out of the loop! You two should already be parents?!
I'm going to say 9.25 lbs of mostly noggin, arriving via specially harnessed stork-convoy at 4 am June 12th.

  10. I forgot to put a time on the arrival. I'm guessing 3-4 in the morning. Bloody inconvenient, and it'll take up the whole of your Saturday.

  11. Karisha...Babies, like all great international events, like to happen at inopportune times when it's hardest to get a taxi:

    Sunday night/Monday morning June 9 2:00am
    12 lbs 6 oz

  13. Ok, I've been thinking about this most of the day. When oh when will little Emi come?
So, I am feeling June 10 or 11, so I'll say June 11th around 6:15 am.
I am going to say she will weigh in at 3.9 kilos with blue eyes and strawberry blond hair and just a little bit of attitude. ;)

  14. You should eat more curry -that Emi apparently doesn't like - and any other food that she has, in her own, lovely, baby way told you, "icky, icky, mommy"... perhaps, then, just then, she'll get the idea that your womb is evicting her and to get the hell out.

I vote for Saturday morning at 4:05 a.m. So, in our American way, she would be born at 04:05 on 06/07/08. Knowing her parents, she'd be cheeky like that... which also leaves it wide open for her to be 9 lbs (sorry liza, I don't wish that on you, but there is that head to contend with....)

  15. June 7, 9:44 a.m., 7 lbs., 13 oz.

I'm writing this on June 5 right now, but I'm confused with the time zone differences, and I hope it's not already June 7 in Germany. I'm confused.

Can't wait to hear/see the great new!

    Best,
    Eric Davis

  23. Great post. Charlie looks adorable in that onesie! I'm no good at betting or babies so I'll guess 6.35lbs. I have no idea if that's a crazy number or not. You're in Germany! Will you be able to get the weight in pounds? Do I have to figure out kilos? crap, stupid metric system. Okay then 10 Kilos! wait that's like 22 lbs...that would be bad. hmmnn...2.91 kilos then.
