A Beautiful Sunday Drive

Yesterday, Rob, M and I took a drive in the Taunus area of Germany. It is a beautiful area of mountains and valleys punctuated by beautiful old villages. We started out going to Königstein without any idea of what was there.

When we got into the Taunus region it was very foggy. What we discovered was that in Königstein there was an amazing old fortress perched on top of a hill. The ruins are very well maintained and quite impressive. We explored for over an hour and even climbed about 200 steps to reach the top of the tower only to discover that we could see nothing....we were surrounded by clouds.

Even so, it was fairly amazing. Especially considering we really just wanted to enjoy a nice ride without traveling too far.

After enjoying the best apple strudel ever (and I don't say this lightly), we decided to just follow the road. The Taunus is composed of parks, bike paths, and beautiful scenery. We look forward to enjoying a bike ride in the spring! On our way back home, we saw another castle on the side of the road in Eppstein. This time we also found the sun.

It was a wonderful day!
